Create a 5th treasure for Albion

Many young people today find it difficult to balance the demands of school, sports, leisure (computers, games), friends and family time.  Too much of any one thing is rarely good.  Cleaning your room is nice, but 10 hours of cleaning a day would be burdensome.  In Albion, the Four Treasures must be in balance.  Out of balance, the very trait or power that can be positive, becomes problematic.   The Cauldron of Plenty was used in a positive manner to provide food and necessities for the Danann, but General Eeder used the Cauldron only to produce food and riches for his own greedy self.  In balance, the Flame of Knowledge provides the comfort of discovering any fact you would like to know.  Out of balance, the Flame provides so much information that the Abbess can not make up her mind, and splits into five warring factions of herself, each arguing a different interpretation of the same event.  In balance, the Book of Healing provides comfort and healing to an injured person.  Out of balance, Gally’s possession of the Book makes him invincible and able to live forever, solitary, alone and, quite possibly, going mad.
In 250 words or less, create a fifth treasure for ALBION. It should have a power that is positive when in balance, but out of balance (i.e. too much of this power), the same trait causes havoc.

Who is your Dag Dia

Dag Dia of ALBION is thought to be a Kelpie, a shape-shifting equine creature that drags children underwater, never to be heard from again. But Dag Dia becomes Evie’s friend, protector, and unlikely hero.
In 250 words or less, describe an unlikely hero in your life.

Describe your Albion

Writer/Director Castille Landon created the world of ALBION because as a child she dreamed of having a magical stallion whisk her off to a world where she no longer felt like an outsider, as she often did when she was a young girl.
In 250 worlds or less, describe a world that you would create for yourself and what kind of person you would be in that world.

I’m a teacher who has a child in another school. May I submit an entry on behalf of my child, who is not in my class?
You may submit the entry as a parent. Students may enter the contest by submitting their own entry. However, as part of the submission process, students are required to include information about their teacher. The intent of the program is that the students, teachers and schools are all affiliated. This is a good opportunity for parents to reach out to their child’s school and teacher(s) and encourage them to participate in the program.
I home-school my children. May I participate?
Yes. If you are the teacher, whether affiliated with a school system or in a home-school arrangement, of a student and you are at least 21 years old, you are eligible to participate in the program.
I teach History and I would like to enter the “Albion: The Enchanted Stallion” Image and Writing Contest but some of my students will be entering the contest with their English teacher. Can I still register a student in my History class?
Yes, you can still register. But each student will be allowed to submit only one entry for judging. This means that if you have students who will be participating in the contest with another teacher, and the student submits an entry from each class, the entry with the most recent time stamp at the end of the contest will be judged in the contest.
Are all after-school programs/participants eligible to enter, or will they need to be affiliated with the school?
The “Albion: The Enchanted Stallion” Image and Writing Contest would serve as a wonderful after-school program activity, as long as it is affiliated with a teacher and a school.
Are school librarians eligible to enter?
Yes. A librarian may register and participate in the program. You may register as a teacher and submit the student entries. Remember that students may be working on the contest with their regular teachers, so they should keep in mind that the most recent entry will be judged for the contest.
I’d like to incorporate this contest into my regular classroom instruction. Am I allowed to help my students revise their entries to final drafts, as I typically would with any writing assignment?
Absolutely! We encourage teachers to incorporate this activity into their lesson plans. Note: Each module identifies the supporting teaching standard.
